nom! Children look forward to returning to the red dust
Our nom! Children program employs qualified nutritionists to support parents through valuable healthy eating nutrition education sessions. Through these programs, with increased nutritional knowledge, parents can introduce healthy eating habits and improve the wellbeing of their young family. The programs empower parents through valuable healthy eating education, promoting nutrition strategies that result in improved dietary intake in the family home.
The nom! Children program is specifically designed to benefit parents with young children allowing our nutritionists to continue to deliver our evidenced-based programs across the state. In particular we have a strong connection in the Pilbara and we look forward to returning to these regional and remote communities soon.
We have been doing this for 12 years and the evidence speaks for itself.
To date, the program has demonstrated improvements in parental food literacy with 82% of participants making at least one positive improvement in their food literacy skills and 83% making at least one positive improvement to their parenting practices.
The program successfully demonstrates the importance of providing parents and carers with the tools to create a positive eating experience.
Through increased nutrition knowledge, and quality time spent teaching parents, the impact of the program has been highlighted in improving healthy eating in children and overall wellbeing for parents and their family.
Our nom! Children program helps to increase parents’ confidence in applying practices to support healthy eating in young children, by empowering them to take control of their child’s health and development.
The program also aims to increase the knowledge of parents and carers living with social disadvantage.
A vital outcome of the program is improved confidence, knowledge, and food literacy skills within three months of completing the program. Good nutrition during early childhood has been recognised as a critical indicator for optimal health, growth, and cognitive development, from conception to five years.
All participants are provided a range of resources including easy to follow recipe booklets, comprehensive education resource book, a shopping bag and healthy eating plate.
nom! Children is proudly supported by Telethon7 and we are pleased to announce that Roy Hill has signed a three-year agreement for nom! – a comprehensive, evidence based, nutrition education and cooking program to parents in the Pilbara region. We look forward to returning to the beautiful Pilbara region to deliver our programs soon!
