Mount Gibson partners with
Foodbank WA for NAIDOC

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, “Blak, Loud and Proud” celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity.

In keeping with this theme, we were excited to officially welcome Mount Gibson Iron to being Foodbank WA’s inaugural partner to support our community services during NAIDOC Week.

Together we showcased our commitment in addressing food insecurity within the remote, regional, and local indigenous communities of WA during NAIDOC Week. Sponsored by Mt Gibson, we attended four events during NAIDOC week where we provided food relief in the form of food hampers and emergency funding required for NAIDOC Week recipients and their remote communities in which they reside.

The image captures a group of five people at an outdoor event, standing in front of a tent with a community or cultural theme. From left to right, there’s a woman in a purple shirt, a boy in a colorful hoodie, a woman in an Aboriginal flag scarf with a young girl, and a man in a black and white polo shirt.

The first event to kick-off NAIDOC week took place at Wellington Square where we distributed 100 hampers to members of the community who visited our marquee and indicated they were in need of emergency food assistance. There were two more events held in July, as well as upcoming events in August and October taking place in Midland and  Armadale.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Mt Gibson Iron, these events would not have been possible without their support and funding.
