Kick a goal to help end hunger
Essendon Legends Kevin Sheedy and Dustin Fletcher will help footy fans kick goals to end hunger for Foodbank ahead of the Bombers clash against the Swans at the MCG on Saturday 6 July.
For every Bombers goal this season, MCG energy partner EnergyAustralia donates 200 meals to Foodbank Victoria – and now fans can kick their own special goal to provide extra meals for people in need.
EnergyAustralia will set up a special Goals to End Hunger footy pitch outside Gate 2 ahead of the Essendon Bombers and Sydney Swans clash on 6 July.
Bombers Legends Kevin Sheedy and Dustin Fletcher will have a kick-off before coaching fans to pile on the goals, with every fan goal resulting in a donation by EnergyAustralia of 6 meals to Foodbank and every behind triggering a 1 meal donation.
By hitting a smaller target, fans will unlock entry into a competition to gain access to the Bombers’ club rooms after the game. Fans will also be able to have their club colours painted on their face.
The fun will commence at midday, ahead of the 1.45pm match. Those unable to make it can still support the Goals to End Hunger initiative by texting ‘Goal’ to 0400 662 662 or donating here.
Foodbank Victoria CEO Dave McNamara said the extra meals from footy fans would go a long way for Victorians doing it tough.
“Every month we’re helping to feed more Victorians than can fit in the ‘G. But there’s still not enough food to go around. That’s why support from EnergyAustralia and the Essendon Football Club is so important – it enables us to get more food to more people and also shines a light on the crisis of hunger in Australia,” he said.
More than 4 million Australians experienced food insecurity last year, including 1 in 5 children.
EnergyAustralia has donated more than 25,000 meals to Foodbank this AFL season alone, thanks to the Bombers’ solid kicking.
