It’s the season for fresh produce

We have been working hard behind the scenes to increase the volumes of fresh produce available. Most recently we have had an abundance of deliciously juicy oranges delivered on a regular basis and have also been very lucky to be the recipients of delicious blueberries which are always in high demand.

We’ve also been showered with potatoes, onions and leeks from Element in the last few weeks which has been so wonderful to see.

The very lovely people at TLB have been donating strawberries too, with a promise of a heap of tomatoes later this year (like they did last year).

Brookrise a new donor have been super generous donating a huge amount of Chinese cabbage and lettuces a few weeks ago along with four pallets of spinach!

Last but not least, the spicy people at Blazing Saddles have advised that their chilli’s have been planted and there will be mountains for us coming soon.

We are so grateful for the increase in variety and volumes of fresh produce, it gives our customers a greater choice when creating more balanced and nutritious meals. For many people this may be the only source of fresh food they have access to, making these donations incredibly impactful.

Fresh produce donations also help to reduce food waste by rescuing surplus from farmers, grocers and suppliers, redirecting it to people in need rather than letting it go to waste. This not only feeds thousands of people but also supports sustainability efforts, contributing to a circular economy in which excess food is put to good use which is what we are all about.
