Hardship in WA on the rise

The Financial Wellbeing Collective who we have recently partnered with, is a collaboration of not-for-profit community service organisations and local government who provide a range of integrated and person-centred services, with the aim of reducing the drivers and impacts of financial hardship in the Western Australian community.

The organisation recently released The Financial Wellbeing in WA Snapshot 2024 which provides insights into the experiences of hardship in Western Australia.

Their findings are rather shocking, showing that call volumes for people accessing emergency relief in the past three years has increased by more than 50% and a 111% increase in employed clients accessing emergency relief in the same time period. Their findings also revealed that their organisation alone supported over 10,000 people across Western Australia who were in food stress, requiring referrals to the Emergency Relief and Food Access Service, of which we are a part of.
