Foodbank WA Welcomes Alana King as Ambassador

Foodbank WA is excited to announce that Australian Cricketer and Perth Scorchers player Alana King has joined Foodbank WA as an ambassador.

Alana King took the cricket world by storm during the summer of 2021-22, making her international debut in all three formats. She has already played a key part in Australia winning the Ashes, the ICC Women’s World Cup, and gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Alana’s passion and drive to succeed in the highly competitive world of National and International sport makes her the perfect fit in an ambassadorial role for Foodbank WA, where she can, through her professional and personal channels, drive change by highlighting the reality of food insecurity and the impact Foodbank WA makes in the community.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Alana’s calibre represent Foodbank WA. Alana has worked tirelessly to improve her game to get to where she is in the highly competitive world of sport, and we know she will bring the same vibrancy, dedication and passion to her new role as Foodbank WA ambassador.” said Kate O’Hara, Foodbank WA CEO.

“Alana works incredibly hard to perform at her peak, keep improving and to get the best out of herself, she pushes the boundaries and keeps true to her values – which is where we align with Alana. By inspiring young Australians, Alana demonstrates the same values that underpin our purpose to Feed. Educate. Advocate. These values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration and responsibility are at the core of everything we do, and all that Alana demonstrates too. We are very excited to work alongside her moving forward.” Kate O’Hara continued.

Alana King, Foodbank WA ambassador, said “I am excited to join Foodbank WA as an ambassador. I am passionate about giving back to the community and I have been impressed by the work that Foodbank WA do. When I toured their Perth warehouse I was surprised by how large it is and the sheer amount of food that they distribute.”

“The work that they do through the Mobile Foodbanks to ensure they can reach more people as well as their School Breakfast Program feeding 22,500 children a week is really impressive. I feel that their values strongly align with mine and I look forward to helping promote the important work that they do”.

The increasing cost of living coupled with the after effects of COVID continues to create an increasing surge in demand at Foodbank WA. Before COVID, the organisation would assist about 200 people a day, some days this is now over 900. The challenge for Foodbank WA is to now ensure the supply chain continues to meet a growing demand.

It is vital to raise awareness of Foodbank WA so those who are struggling to put food on the table know help is available.

About Foodbank WA

Hello, we’re Foodbank WA. We believe everyone should have access to good quality food. We’re here for the everyday Western Australians who are going without. And it’s our job to help change that.

We provide food and groceries to those who struggle to afford them. We also deliver nutrition education to promote healthy eating and advocate on behalf of people that experience hunger and food insecurity.

We are here to support Western Australians in times of need. We do this through

  • Providing 6.7 million meals last financial year to those who were doing it tough
  • Distributing food and groceries through 448 frontline charities
  • Providing breakfast and fruit to 492 schools feeding 21,000 children weekly
  • Delivering education programs for over 6,200 children, adults and parents

We work with farmers, wholesalers, manufactures and retailers who donate and redirect surplus product to us. This also plays a vital role in tackling food waste and positively contributes to climate change by reducing CO2 emissions arising from landfill.

Our vision is to end hunger in Western Australia by 2030. Our purpose is to Feed. Educate. Advocate.
