FOOD SENSATIONS SCHOOLS IN WA
900KM TRAVELLED, 180 STUDENTS COOKING IN THE MID-WEST
Did you know that we offer nutrition education and cooking sessions to students across Western Australia? Recently we travelled to the Mid-West to run our Food Sensations® for Schools program with 180 students in five days.
Our university-qualified nutritionists Laura and Skye travelled over 900 kilometres to visit Northampton District High School, Champion Bay Senior High School, and Beachlands Primary School in Western Australia’s Mid-West.
Regional schools don’t always get the same opportunities as metro schools, so we aim to visit schools in each region every year.
As always, our sessions were tailored to each year group and students learned about important nutrition information including the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, sugar in drinks, homemade versus takeaway, knife safety, and hygiene in the kitchen through interactive and fun lessons.
Students then cooked up a storm, using recipes taken from our Best Of Healthy Recipes For All, and Let’s Cook #2 recipe books (get your own copies at SuperheroFoodsHQ). The students loved all the delicious and healthy dishes they made.
Laura and Skye also visited a few local School Breakfast Program clubs providing brekkie to kids who would otherwise have to sit through class with rumbling tummies.
Skye and Julia, other university-qualified nutritionists, also squeezed in a trip to the Wheatbelt in July. They had a blast in Kondinin, Corrigin and Brookton working with the local students, and the Kimberley trip is up next in Term Three.
