During the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, more and more families are turning to Foodbank NSW & ACT for help. Since last year, requests for food relief in the ACT have shot up by a staggering 40%. Many of those reaching out have never had to ask for help before.
But your kindness is helping to meet this growing demand, and providing the urgent assistance needed to stop our most vulnerable neighbours from going hungry.
The up-to-date figures in our Foodbank Hunger Report 2023 paints a grim picture of the scale of need we’re facing.
Across Australia, 3.7 million families simply don’t have enough to eat. That’s more than all the households in Sydney and Melbourne combined. In the last year, more than three-quarters of those families have been going hungry for the very first time.
I want to thank you for everything you’re doing to help tackle this urgent situation. But there is still so much more to be done. The terrible impacts of the cost-of-living crisis will be felt for a long time to come. Your continued support will play a crucial role in the months ahead.
