Fuelling nutrition education in the Wheatbelt
All thanks to great support from CBH
Thanks to generous funding as part of the Harvest Mass Management Program in partnership with CBH Group and Main Roads Western Australia, our nutritionists Skye and Julia hit the road to deliver nutrition education programs to students in the Wheatbelt.
With 1,200km of roads travelled, 6 schools visited and 322 students participating in one of our 17 popular Learn. Cook. Share. for Schools programs, they even managed to fit in visits to five Breakfast Clubs in both the Northern and Eastern Wheatbelt regions.
Each session saw the kids cooking up a storm, with a variety of dishes chosen including a new one form the latest recipe book, Healthy Tucker. The students particularly loved the Speedy stew recipe, while parents favoured the One-pot Gnocch Out dish.
The impact of these nutrition education sessions is far reaching and sometimes quicker than imagined or hoped for. Skye and Julia were approached by locals when they visited the towns in their itinerary in their spare time and were met with positive feedback. They even ran into one parent outside the local IGA and she had one of our recipe books opened up as they were shopping for the ingredients. She said her daughter was really excited to cook more recipes from our recipe book.
