AngloGold Ashanti delivers
fresh food diverted by the floods
When floods in outback Western Australia closed roads and access, AngloGold Ashanti got creative.
In March 2024, massive flooding closed off roads to communities and mines out of Kalgoorlie impacting food deliveries. A Compass Group ESS supply full of fresh produce, milk and groceries was unable to make it to its destination – AngloGold Ashanti’s mine.
Rather than see this great food go to waste the Miner instead diverted the ESS truck full of provisions to Foodbank Kalgoorlie to ensure it could go to not only families impacted by the floods but also Western Australians experiencing food stress across Western Australia.
A massive 7,775 kilos of food was donated creating 13,972 meals distributed to people who are struggling to put food on their tables.
The range of food donated was sensational with high quality and fresh capsicums, tomatoes, lettuce, apples, potatoes, onions, cabbage and celery.
Because some of the produce was delivered to our main operations facility in Perth, we were able to re-distribute this to our Peel and Bunbury branches.
