Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Foodbank Victoria.

We are looking for dedicated, fit & friendly folks, who are willing to commit to have a go.

If this sounds like you, and you’d love to make a difference to struggling Victorians, please get in touch at volunteering@foodbankvictoria.org.au for an opportunity to join our amazing volunteer team.

Many of our charity partners need more volunteers to help run their food relief programs. If you’d like to volunteer at a local charity, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to connect you with one of our partners.

If you are able to support our work by making a financial contribution, please click here. For every $1 donated, 2 meals is created.

Volunteer roles

We have several roles available across our operations, with our core volunteering in our warehouses located in Yarraville and Brooklyn. Below are some examples of our volunteering roles.

Pick Pack Team Member (Yarraville and Brooklyn) – pack pantry items for our charity partner orders. Training is provided for our scanners, pallet stacking and use of the pallet truck.

Rework Team Member (Yarraville) – work in a team to sort food donations and large fruit and veg deliveries into smaller boxes ready to be picked for orders.

Pick Pack and Rework Supervisors – assist regular and corporate volunteers in each area, troubleshooting, managing workflow, assisting with training specific to their areas.

Wrappers (Yarraville) – Our wrapping team do not provide entertainment for the warehouse! They do work with a turntable though – but one that wraps all our orders up ready for dispatch.

Customer Service (Yarraville) – assist our charity partners that collect their orders from our warehouse. You’ll locate orders and deliver them to the waiting vehicles.

Fresh Team Members (Yarraville) – work in our chiller packing fresh fruit and veg and refrigerated items for orders. It’s our FREE gym membership!

Admin Assistants (Yarraville) – assist our fundraising team and corporate partnerships teams with admin duties, like name badges, mail outs etc. When we’re working on specific projects, we’ll ask volunteers if they’d like to come on board and assist with project based work for a short period of time.

Bus Supervisor (Brooklyn) – you’ll be responsible for inducting our corporate volunteers onto our mobile supermarket bus and supervising them when onsite at our partner sites. The bus is stocked at and departs from our Brooklyn Warehouse.

School Cooking Class – We have a small team of volunteers who assist our School Cooking Class Program. To volunteer in this program, you’re required to have a Working with Children Check. Commitment for this program is one afternoon each week for four weeks during the Victorian school terms. Please get in touch with volunteering@foodbankvictoria.org.au for an application form. This role involves a telephone interview and an induction which can be completed online or in person.

Commitment

We understand people have busy lives, so we offer flexibility in shifts in our warehouse. Once a week is amazing, but we also take blocks of time, fortnightly, monthly, just school holidays, not school holidays – basically we’ll work you into the schedule as it works for you. We ask that you commit to 12 shifts a year. At this stage we are unable to offer one off volunteering.

If you’re interested in volunteering with a group from work, please contact corporatevolunteers@foodbankvictoria.org.au.
