Celebrating NAIDOC Week with The Gathering Place

NAIDOC Week is a fantastic opportunity for us to acknowledge the outstanding support that many of our charity partners provide to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Victoria.

This year, we were honoured to join one of our charity partners – The Gathering Place – for the first day of celebrations.

Based in Morwell, The Gathering Place provide individuals and families in the local community the opportunity to come together to learn, share and celebrate culture.

Following the morning’s ceremonies, we spoke with Carolyn Whalan, Manager at the Gathering Place, to find out more about the work that they do, and the importance of bringing people together – not just for events such as NAIDOC Week – but throughout the entire community.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across the country each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The week is a great opportunity for all Australians to participate in a range of activities and support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
