Mobile Supermarket Bus

Our Mobile Supermarket Bus provides healthy fresh produce and culturally appropriate food to people in disadvantaged communities.

Travelling on our mobile supermarket, you and your team will be out in the community, providing food directly to families in need.

Our Mobile Supermarket Buses are made possible thanks to support from our incredible partners Kinetic and DECJUBA Foundation.

Bookings can be made via our online booking calendar. Online bookings close 2 weeks prior to the day. Please call us on 9362 8386 to enquire about upcoming vacancies.

Corporate Volunteer experiences are considered a service and therefore we cannot issue a donation receipt. An invoice will be sent upon booking with 30-day payment terms. Payment is required via direct deposit. Unfortunately we don’t accept credit card.

Cancellation policy

Volunteers are crucial to the operations of our mobile supermarket bus. If you are unable to meet your commitments please let us know as early as possible and we will endeavour to find an alternative date.

Late cancellations or failure to attend impacts our operations as we must employ a labour hire team to ensure we continue to provide vital food relief to Victorians in need. Therefore, we appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to cancel your booking.

  • A 50% fee is applied to cancellations within 14 days of your volunteer booking
  • A 100% fee is applied to cancellations within 7 days of your volunteer booking.

Each organisation can book a maximum of 4 volunteer shifts per year. We reserve the right to update the cancellation policy in the event multiple bookings (above 4) are made.

OHS and manual handling requirements

Due to the physical nature of this activity, tasks involve significant amounts of manual handling, including lifting/bending, twisting/turning, repetitive movements and standing for extended periods of time.  Volunteers can expect to lift items at least 10 kilos.  Please consider if this activity is right for you.

We do not allow volunteers to participate if we determine they are unable to perform the tasks safely and do not have alternative activities available on the day.

What to bring and wear

You will be on your feet for most of the day. We will provide steel toe capped safety boots, a stylish hi-vis vest and gloves to keep you safe.

Wear comfortable clothing suitable for bending and lifting. Bring a warm jacket too as some tasks require being outdoors.

There’s limited space, so please bring as little as possible and keep your valuables in your pockets. There will be space on the bus to store your lunch, water bottle and a small bag.

We don’t have kitchen facilities on site, so please bring lunch that doesn’t require cooling or heating.

Location, parking and public transport

Your day will start at 8am from our Brooklyn warehouse, Building G4, 77 Millers Road, Brooklyn, 3012.

See the map here for directions on where to park and how to enter the warehouse safely. Please enter through the pedestrian door and not the roller doors as these are for the trucks.

Your team should arrive by 8am to help pack the bus full of fresh produce and pantry staples.  Your team will then head out to a location in metro Melbourne to help distribute food directly to people in need.

Your team will return to the Brooklyn warehouse and finish up around 2.00-2.30pm depending on traffic.

CovidSafe practices

We follow DHHS guidelines and have adjusted our volunteer activity to align with advice.

To help provide you with a safer workplace and to help keep Foodbank operational, if you are feeling unwell please don’t attend.

A professional cleaner is onsite throughout the day to clean and sanitise high touch and traffic areas.

A full copy of our COVID-Safe plan can be emailed to you upon request.
