GROUP WAREHOUSE VOLUNTEERING

Helping hands in our warehouse

Volunteers are integral to the day-to-day functions of our warehouse, and are the key ingredient in ensuring food relief is provided to families in need every day.

You and your team will be hands on in one of our warehouses, packing food for distribution to over 500 charities across Victoria.

We have options for varying team sizes at our Yarraville and Brooklyn warehouses as well as on board our Mobile Supermarket Bus.

If you’re a corporate group looking to make a huge impact, book now!

What you need to know

Activity

You and your team will be hands on in one of our warehouses, packing food for distribution to our charity partners across Victoria. Depending on the day, your team could be picking and packing food orders, hamper packing, relabelling or sorting food donations. You’ll have a chance to use our scanning equipment, operate a pallet jack, or work across one of our hamper packing lines.

At the end of your shift, we celebrate the total impact your team has had, both in kilos packed and sorted, and number of meals that will go directly to people in need. We’ll also share a selection of images of your team at work during the day.

Group Size and Cost

We can accommodate various group sizes across our Yarraville and Brooklyn warehouses.

Yarraville Warehouse: 8.30am-2.30pm Monday to Friday

8-10 people, $1,200 + GST

11-20 people, $2,400 + GST

Brooklyn Warehouse: 8.45am-2.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays

6-10 people, $1,200 + GST

If you’re looking for an option for a team of 4-5 people, check out our Mobile Supermarket Bus.

Your financial contribution is vital to help us source and distribute food to families who are currently struggling to put meals on the table.

Due to demand, each organisation can book a maximum of 4 volunteer shifts per year. If your organisation is looking to book more than 4 dates, please contact us to discuss partnership opportunities at CorporatePartnerships@foodbankvictoria.org.au.

Bookings and Payment

Bookings can be made via our online booking calendar. Online bookings close 2 weeks prior to the day. Please call us on 9362 8386 to enquire about upcoming vacancies.

Corporate Volunteer experiences are considered a service by the ATO and therefore we cannot issue a donation receipt. An invoice will be sent upon booking with 30-day payment terms. Payment is required via direct deposit. Unfortunately we don’t accept credit card.

Cancellation policy

Volunteers are crucial to the operations of our warehouse. If you are unable to meet your commitments please let us know as early as possible and we will endeavour to find an alternative date.

Late cancellations or failure to attend impacts our operations as we must employ a labour hire team to ensure we continue to provide vital food relief to Victorians in need. Therefore, we appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to cancel your booking.

  • A 50% fee is applied to cancellations within 14 days of your volunteer booking
  • A 100% fee is applied to cancellations within 7 days of your volunteer booking.

Each organisation can book a maximum of 4 volunteer shifts per year. We reserve the right to update the cancellation policy in the event multiple bookings (above 4) are made.

OHS and manual handling requirements

Due to the physical nature of warehouse volunteering, tasks involve significant amounts of manual handling, including lifting/bending, twisting/turning, repetitive movements and standing for extended periods of time.

Please consider if this activity is right for you.

We do not allow volunteers to participate if we determine they are unable to perform the tasks safely and do not have alternative activities available on the day.

What to bring and wear

Bring your lunch
We have a fridge, microwave and tea/coffee facilities. Please note lunch break is 30mins and there are no cafes nearby. If you’d like to pre-arrange catering for your team, we recommend these local providers:

Alfa Bakehouse in Seddon has a fantastic selection of lunch options.  Make sure you order by 12pm the day before to give them enough time to cook up your delicious meals.

Brisk Catering is located in West Melbourne, and offers delivery direct to our warehouse.

Bunji Catering is a proud Aboriginal company who’s food is inspired by native and traditional produce.

Bring socks
For your safety we provide steel capped boots and gloves which are mandatory to wear. Please bring long, thick socks to wear with the boots. Alternatively, if you have your own steel capped boots you can BYO.

Wear comfortable clothing
Wear clothing that is suitable for bending, lifting and repetitive movements. Shorts/pants/leggings/jeans with a comfortable t-shirt and jumper is recommended. The temperature inside the warehouse is generally the same as outside. We do not have air-conditioning or heating in the warehouse.

CovidSafe practices

We follow DHHS guidelines and have adjusted our volunteer activity to align with advice.

To help provide you with a safer workplace and to help keep Foodbank operational, if you are feeling unwell please don’t attend.

A professional cleaner is onsite throughout the day to clean and sanitise high touch and traffic areas.

A full copy of our COVID-Safe plan can be emailed to you upon request.
