Lions Clubs Making a Difference for People in Need

For over 20 years, Lions Clubs in South Australia have been supporting Foodbank SA. Each year, Foodbank SA is overwhelmed by the generosity of Lions Clubs across the state.

In the past financial year Lions Clubs across the state aimed to raise $50,000 to provide 100,000 meals for Australian families doing it tough in these difficult and uncertain times. They well and truly exceeded this target! Thanks to the generous support of 32 Lions Clubs, enough funds were donated to put 101,828 meals on the table of those in need, making a real impact on food insecurity and hunger in our community.

Donating funds is not the only way in which Lions Clubs support us in our mission to end hunger. An inspiring collaboration was formed in the regional district of Tintinara, between the Tintinara Lions Club of only 18 people, a local abattoir and the farming community. Farmers in the area donated mutton and beef, which was processed in the abattoir to turn this into mince. In turn, the mince was donated to support Foodbank in feeding hungry people in the community. Knowing that meat is in high demand and short supply, this initiative has been truly impactful!

Again, for the 2022-2023 financial year Lions Clubs have set a challenge to raise more than 100,000 meals to support struggling South Australian families. With the rising costs of living, groceries, fuel and the rental crisis, this support is needed more than ever, as Foodbank expects to see an increasing demand for food relief. We are grateful for the generous support of all Lions Clubs and their Members, and we are excited about our ongoing collaboration in the coming year.
