Fresh Food Fridays

In 2018, Foodbank SA received reports from schools participating in the Foodbank SA School Breakfast Program that there were students who have little or no food when they are at home over the weekend. Some schools requested extra food supplies to distribute to those students identified as being most at risk.

The Fresh Food Friday (FFF) Program, was proudly supported by Variety SA from 2018 to 2020, allowing South Australian school students in need to access take home food packs on Fridays making sure they have access to food in their homes over the weekend.

Through this program, FFF food packs were delivered to schools and distributed to students who were identified by school staff as showing signs of need on a Friday, ensuring they had access to food over the weekend.

The programs objectives were:

  • To provide children at risk of hunger with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food for consumption at their places of residence over the weekend when they are not at school.
  • To distribute nutritious, wholesome food in a caring and discreet manner.

Please note: this program concluded in December 2020 and has been superseded by the new Building Health Program. For more information on the Building Health Program visit here.

Some of the most vulnerable kids living in our state are turning up to school on a Monday having not eaten adequate amounts over the weekend. By providing good nutritious food we hope to help these kids have a better start.
