Citrus Season Hits Giving Milestone!
In May we saw the launch of Citrus Season here in Adelaide and another milestone for the generous South Australian Citrus growers.
During this season, Foodbank SA will distribute hundreds of thousands of kilograms of Citrus across the state of South Australia with the help and generous donations from fruit growers, the South Australian Produce Market and Citrus SA.
The commencement of the Citrus season was a real celebration this year with Citrus growers collectively donating more than 266,000 kg of Citrus to Foodbank over a 12 month period to the start of the 2020 season.
The fruit supplied by Citrus growers is predominantly used to service more than 500 School Programs, including the hundreds of school breakfast programs offered by Foodbank across the state. Foodbank SA’s free School Breakfast Program helps to provide healthy, nutritious food to children who may be going to school hungry as well as fruit to be consumed throughout the day.
Foodbank SA had the opportunity to distribute citrus to children at the Berri Primary School to see first-hand the positive impact our School Breakfast Program has on the children and the community.
Partnering with Foodbank SA for week 3 of Riverland Citrus Giveaways! 🍊
The third week of our SA citrus campaign saw us head to the Riverland to visit Venus Citrus and pick up a giant donation of 360 kgs locally grown oranges! 🚚 Some were donated to the children at the local Berri Primary School and others were given to Foodbank SA to help with their Riverland School Breakfast Program. Thank you to everyone involved for your kind generosity and help. This season is looking brighter and juicer than ever so #LetsGo support our local growers! 🍊Citrus SACitrus AustraliaSouth Australian Produce Market
