Foodbank Darwin Launches New Food Hub: A Lifeline for thousands facing hunger
After more than 12 years of serving the Northern Territory community, we’ve opened our brand-new Foodbank Darwin Food Hub and Warehouse in Yarrawonga. This new facility is a gamechanger for us, and more importantly, for the people we help.
Our new Food Hub means we can distribute up to 300,000 kilograms of food relief in the region over the next year—that’s 600,000 meals for families who need them most!
As living costs continue to rise, more people are finding it hard to put food on the table. Our new Hub provides a larger dignified space where they can access affordable and nutritious food, including free fresh produce, bread and milk.
We’ve already seen the positive impact this new space is having.
Natalie, who has been moving between casual jobs, says, “Until I can get more regular hours, Foodbank has been a Godsend. I’m now able to eat 1-2 times a day without stressing about where my next meal is coming from. The volunteers are lovely, and I’m so thankful for their support.”
Andy moved to Darwin for a job that fell through, leaving him in a tough spot. “When I first had to go to Foodbank, I sat in the car for about 20 minutes feeling guilty. But as soon as I walked in, I was greeted with kindness. Without Foodbank, I would either be homeless or starving.”
We couldn’t have done this without the incredible support from friends like you and the Federal and Territory Governments, corporate partners, volunteers, and our small but mighty team.
Thank you for being part of our mission to end hunger in the Top End.
Help us get more vital food to vulnerable South Australians and Territorians in need. For every $1 donated we can distribute 2 meals to someone in need.
