A message from our CEO

A message from Greg…

Last month, we rounded out the financial year and submitted our end of year report to the department of Human services. We have been amazed of the amount that Foodbank have achieved across this state.

Despite our limited funding and the increase in demand by more than 21% across the board we have still been able to distribute nearly 20,000 meals a day for South Australians in need. The amount of people we have assisted via our Food Hubs has increased by 43%, assisting more than 196,028 people this 2021/22 financial year.

In addition, we continue to be the primary food relief provider to the charity sector, with more than 634 Agencies accessing our services each month, including Salvation Army, Anglicare, Baptist Care, Lutheran Community Care, St Vincent de Paul, Puddle Jumpers, Heart and Soul, Hutt Street Centre, Fred’s Van and Kickstart for Kids. With 406 of these agencies and schools referring their clients to the Hubs including Anglicare, Australian Red Cross, Marion Life Community Centre, Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, United Care, United Communities, AC Care and Life Without Barriers.

Foodbank’s food assistance not only addresses people’s immediate nutrition needs but also contributes to improvements in their health, emotional wellbeing, sense of self-worth, social relationships and ultimately overall standard of living. Combined with the environmental savings of food not going to waste, the benefit to the individual and the broader community that flows from every kilogram of food distributed by Foodbank is valued at $23 per kilogram per adult, for a child this rises to $110 per kilogram. The SROI of Foodbank on the South Australian community, conservatively based on the $23 per kilo equates to more than $83.7 million impact in the South Australian community.

We do this on a shoestring and we couldn’t do it without our donors, major partners, volunteers and dedicated team. As we head into Spring, we know that the rising cost of living is still hurting everyday South Australians. Still, many don’t know where their next meal for themselves or their families is coming from. We ask that if you have the means to consider financially supporting Foodbank now or in the future, as without your donations or financial contributions, we will not be able to fill the shelves for the 196,028 clients referred into our Food Hub services who are accessing food relief.

With 100% of your donations going towards food procurement, we thank you for your impact in South Australia.
