Distributing 4.3 million kilos of food and groceries
And how the Mobile Foodbank helps
Providing 7.8 milllion meals, or distributing 4.3 million kilos of food in one year is quite the challenge, and our Mobile Foodbank certainly goes a long way in helping us achieve this.
Our Mobile Foodbank concept first launched back in 2019 with four locations in the Perth metropolitan area.
Since COVID and the onset of the continuing cost of living crisis, Our Mobile Foodbank has continued to grow in popularity as the service helps our customers to overcome the barriers of distance and insecurity in both the metro area and regional communities to accessing essential food relief.
Our Mobile Foodbanks now visit 30 locations weekly in the Perth metro area – from Rockingham in the south to Two Rocks in the north. In addition to this, we have almost 20 more operating regionally from our branches.
In a state like ours, where distances between towns are wide, our Mobile Foodbank makes a world of difference to so many people each week. Thanks to a small army of logistically minded people and volunteers, our mobile service travels – on average – 2,560 kilometres a week to ensure we reach as many people as we can, far and wide.
Mobile Foodbanks stock a wide variety of hampers, regularly providing a range of items including pantry staples such as baked beans, rice, pasta and long life milk and fresh fruit and vegetable hampers at a very low cost.
With such an increased demand for food relief within the state, the need for our Mobile Foodbank network across each region is more critical than ever.
